Maureen Craig Chiropodist/Podiatrist

3 Brookland Avenue Wells Green Wistaston Crewe CW2 8EJ

Maureen Craig, MSSCh MBCh & PA,

Qualified at the School of Surgical Chiropody, Maidenhead, Berkshire in 1992, and now has a thriving practice at Wells Green, Wistaston, part way between Crewe and Nantwich in South Cheshire, North West England.

What is the difference between a chiropodist and a podiatrist? Absolutely none. Podiatrist is simply the modern term for chiropodist. However, in order to use either of these titles the practitioner must be fully-qualified and registered with the Health & Care Professions Council. This is a requirement for reimbursement of most private health schemes.

So what exactly is chiropody/podiatry? It is the palliative treatment of the feet, such as the removal of corns, callouses and ingrowing toe-nails. Other treatments include the reduction of thickened toe-nails; diagnosis & treatment of fungal infections and viral infections such as verrucae (warts). Treatments are also available for conditions such as fallen arches, heel pain and hammer toes by exercises and/or the fitting of custom-made orthotics, often alleviating the need for invasive surgery. Where surgery, or any other form of medical treatment is considered necessary, a referral to either to the GP or a specialist would be made.

The chiropodist/podiatrist is often the first person to recognise conditions such as diabetes and circulatory disorders and is fully qualified to treat the feet of patients with these conditions. As a diabetic, it is essential to have the feet thoroughly examined and treated on a regular basis. Chiropodists/Podiatrists are also trained to recognise skin disorders and to recommend a referral to a dermatologist if necessary.

The surgery at Wells Green is bright, clean and relaxing. Upon arrival a warm and soothing foot-spa is offered whilst a full medical history is taken. Most treatments end with either a soothing massage or comfort padding. The majority of patients depart saying they feel like they are “walking on air”.

The cost of an initial half-hour treatment is between £20 -£40 and can be made in cash, by cheque or bank transfer (BACS). If a further appointment is necessary the charge would be advised after the first treatment. The cost of orthotics, including biomechanical assessment would be advised at the time of treatment.

Toe Nail Trimming Service: If you find it difficult to cut your own toe nails, there is a nail-trimming service available from £20 (including foot spa and massage).

Full or partial reimbursement is available through various private health schemes such as BHSF, Health Shield, Simply Health, Westfield Health and Medicash etc.

Normal waiting time for an appointment is a day to a week.

Parking for up to 3 vehicles is available directly in front of the surgery entrance.
Bus services from both Crewe & Nantwich run every 15 minutes with the stops just a minute or so walk from the surgery.

Patients are protected by Full public liability insurance cover.

There is no credit nor debit card facility available. Payment is by cash, by cheque or bank transfer (BACS).
